Crop Rotation

We have a 3 year rotational plan that delineates by both plant family and nutrient classes. This keeps the soil healthy from year-to-year.

Plant families are rotated to avoid planting anything in the same space in any 3-year period.

  • Year 1: Beans and Greens
  • Year 2: Roots
  • Year 3: Fruits

Nutrient classes are rotated to replenish the soil naturally with minimal fertilization.

  • Year 1: Fixers (legumes) amend the soil.
  • Year 2: Light feeders are planted.
  • Year 3: Heavy feeders get compost.
