Crop Rotation
We have a 3 year rotational plan that delineates by both plant family and nutrient classes. This keeps the soil healthy from year-to-year.
Plant families are rotated to avoid planting anything in the same space in any 3-year period.
- Year 1: Beans and Greens
- Year 2: Roots
- Year 3: Fruits
Nutrient classes are rotated to replenish the soil naturally with minimal fertilization.
- Year 1: Fixers (legumes) amend the soil.
- Year 2: Light feeders are planted.
- Year 3: Heavy feeders get compost.
