Plant Cuttings
We often making cuttings from our blueberry and apple trees. These cuttings can be planted directly or used in grafting projects.
Blueberry
Softwood Cuttings
Softwood cuttings are taken in late spring from the tips of the current season’s growth.
Hardwood Cuttings
Hardwood cuttings are taken during the dormant season after sufficient chilling has occurred, usually late January through February.
Indoor Care
An intermittent-mist system is needed to keep the humidity around the cutting near 100 percent, preventing wilting, and keep the medium moist.
Apple
Scion Wood
Scion wood is gathered in late February.
Grafting
Apple Grafting season runs from mid-March to late-April.
Apple Tree Cuttings
Cuttings are taken during the dormant season, usually late January through February. After a month-long chilling period, and a month-long rooting period, cuttings are ready for transplant. However, they can be raised in a container until the following growing season.
