Research
A listing of research we do here around the farm!
Gardening Records
All of our gardening records from 2018 through current day are published on this website. Powered by volto-farmOS, this allows you to see:
- Event logs like seeding, transplanting, and harvest.
- Records filtered by location, date range, or plant type.
Habitat Assessment and Management
Assessment
We regularly monitor wildlife patterns to get a better understanding of their habitat needs. Assessment methods include:
- Trail cameras
- Bird/bees watching
- Looking for animal tracks, scrapes, and signs
- Hunting
Management
Our assessment practices then spur action initiatives such as:
- Planting wildlife friendly forage
- Clearing pathways in the woods
- Building brushpiles

Open Source Development
We believe in and support open source development. Our external website is built in Plone and our internal farm records management runs farmOS.
Code Repositories We Have Built
We don't just farm. We code too! Check out some of our open source contributions!
- Plone Community Addons
- volto-farmOS - an add-on for Plone that enables Plone and farmOS to talk to each other. This is what makes the gardening records on lillymountain.com come alive!
- farmOS Docker Repositories
- coookiecutter-farmOS - a quick and automated way to build and deploy a multi-tiered farmOS environment using Github Actions
- farmOS Contrib Modules
- farm_seed_asset_extended - adds custom fields
- farm_land_asset_extended - adds custom types
- farm_structure_asset_extended - adds custom types
- Other Plone Addons (that run this website)
- plone-mountain-site - docker project
- volto-mountain-theme - look and feel
- Sensors and Data
- Temperature & Humidity MQTT Sensors
- Arduino Plant Waterer - Uses soil sensors, solid-state relays, and water pumps to automatically water our seedlings before they run dry.
